Camp Sunshine
July 7 - 11, 2008

Cost: $125

This is a special camp for developmentally disabled adults, 18 and over. It is a week of fun, fellowship, recreation, crafts, singing, swimming, hiking, and worship. Campers will live in the cabins, with at least one counselor for every four campers. The staff is a caring group who will supervise the campers at all times and work with them personally to insure that each person has a great time at camp.

Camp begins at 10:00 Monday morning, July 7

Camp ends at 9:30 Friday morning, July 11

The camp is designed to be a vacation for the campers rather than a training event, so the activities will be more recreational and fun than educational. There is no attempt made to have the campers conform to a particular religious view, although the camp will have worship and prayer times. Medication is kept by the staff and given in the mornings, after meals, and before bedtime, as prescribed. If records need to be kept by the staff, please provide forms upon arrival.

Partial scholarships are available and must be arranged in advance of camp. A scholarship is built into the low camp price already, but smaller scholarships can be given.

Who comes to camp?
Campers must be 18 or older before camp begins and must be able to take care of basic personal hygiene, like going to the restroom, showering, and dressing. All campers must be approved by Rev. Jamie Brame, Church Relations Director (after June 1, also by Tessa Everton, Summer Camp Director). Special needs are to be discussed with the Directors before the camper arrives at camp. Because the camp is not run by professional caregivers, it is important that we follow these guidelines when accepting campers.

Safety
Safety is an issue for all Christmount camps, but most especially when special needs are involved. Campers are supervised 24 hours a day with no more than a 3 campers to 1 camp staff ratio (with this camp, it is usually more like a 2 – 1 ratio, but never more than 3 – 1, and only then with very high-functioning campers).

Medicine
Medicine is received from the campers at registration when arriving at camp. Medicine is locked up and only two staff will have access to the meds. Records will be kept for you if required. We prefer that all medicine be brought to camp in a large plastic baggie with the camper’s name on the bag. We will provide a baggie if one is not available. Meds are distributed at breakfast, lunch, supper, and bedtime, as well as other times that are required. Applications, like eye drops or special ointments, are also applied during these times.

Activities
Singing, dancing, movies, swimming, short hikes, devotional times, worship, bonfires, crafts, games, softball, volleyball, puzzles, talent show, and other activities.

What to bring
Comfortable clothes, jacket, bedding (sleeping bags are best), pillow, swim suit & towel, sneakers, lots of socks, toiletry items (toothbrush/paste, soap, shampoo, brush, comb, etc.), towels & washcloth, insect repellent, sunscreen, "creek" shoes/sandals, medications (Christmount staff administers these, with all medications locked up in a private place unavailable to campers or the public; we will keep written records if you require them).

You must speak with Rev. Jamie Brame, Christmount Church Relations Director, to get a form for this camp. After June 1, you may also speak with the Summer Camp Director.
