Each year, Christmount sponsors Camp Sunshine for mentally and
developmentally challenged adults. Camp Sunshine is for high-functioning folks. All campers must be able to take care of their personal hygiene: dressing, showering, going to the restroom. There are
rare situations where sponsors would be in "uncomfortable" situations.
Because of growing popularity of this camp, we need counselors!
In order to maintain a camper to counselor ration of 3:1 or 4:1,
Christmount is looking for volunteers and youth groups who want to branch out into a more difficult work situation. It is fun, it is personally rewarding, but it is still hard work.
Youth groups help Christmount's 6 Summer Camp Staff with the supervision of campers during the day and possibly sleeping in cabins at night.
There are at most 5 campers to a cabin. Cabins are a duplex, so
there is a connecting hallway between two cabins. An experienced
camp staff or counselor (one who has worked the camp before and
knows what to do in most emergencies) is in each duplex.
Begins: Sunday afternoon with orientation and training before camp
begins on Monday.
Camp Sunshine #1: June 4-8, 2012
Camp Sunshine #2: July 9-13, 2012

Christmount Policy on Bullying
Bullying is an act by one or more people to exclude,
tease, taunt, gossip about, hit, kick, or put down another person
with the intent to hurt them. Bullying happens when a person or
group of people want to have power over another. Bullying can be
verbal, physical, or online or on a cell phone.
At Christmount, bullying is inexcusable, and we have
always had a firm policy against all types of bullying and
intimidation. Our camp philosophy is based on our belief that every
camper has a right to have a safe and fun camp experience, that each
person will be respected, and in turn learn to appreciate and
respect others.
Christmount’s camp staff and volunteers are trained to recognize
bullying and to report it to their supervisors; if possible staff
will attempt first to use the situation as a teachable moment and
help to remedy it. Campers and counselors who continue to bully will
not be tolerated; if the person continues bullying they will be sent
home.
