Clergy Spiritual Retreat
Christmount now has
a two-room apartment in Guest House East available for clergy sabbaticals. This
apartment includes a living/study area, kitchenette, bathroom, bedroom, heat and
air-conditioning, cable TV, and is fully furnished. Wireless internet is available (you must provide your own computer and printer).
There is no phone.Christmount is a
great place for sabbaticals, especially in the winter and early spring, when few
groups are here during weekdays. It is very quiet and peaceful and a great
place to relax. read, exercise (Christmount is a good place for just walking or
taking a strenuous hike!) and pray (there are two outdoor chapels and a couple
of meditation areas).
Although Christmount
has a library, you will probably want to bring your
own books. There are some good bookstores in Asheville, about 20 minutes away by
interstate.
Clergy can reserve the
apartment for up to a month. When there are meals available in the Dining
Hall, you may make reservations to eat the meal at regular rates. Otherwise, you
may use the kitchenette for meals or go into town (Christmount is only five
minutes from over twenty restaurants in Black Mountain, as well as two grocery
stores).
Requirements for
sabbatical use: clergy must make a written request as well as provide a letter
from a congregational/jurisdictional leader (Board moderator or the equivalent)
or general/regional supervisor.
For more information,
contact Jamie Brame, Church Relations
Director. Reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis. It is best
to make your plans as much in advance as possible, especially if your schedule
is not flexible.
There is a special
ministerial sabbatical rate for use of the apartment. Ask Jamie for information on the cost of your sabbatical.
